Squash the Abuse!

Monday, August 19th, 2013

Here at Barnston Island Herbs, we like animals. Sometimes more than people. So to protect our fuzzy, furry friends, we’re running a charity drive called “Squash the Abuse!” in support of Animal Advocates BC, a society dedicated to rescuing abused and endangered animals in British Columbia. For the duration of our growing season, we’ll be donating one dollar ($1) from every box of squash we sell to Animal Advocates. So if you buy any of the following, you’ll be helping a four-legged friend find a better life with people who care:

Help us squash animal abuse in BC. Call our office to place an order.

Barnston Island Herbs in the News!

Saturday, August 3rd, 2013

A few months back, Melinda and Dan from OptikLocal’s myVancouver stopped by our farm to shoot a story on us and who we are. After they allayed our country-borne fears of them strange outsiders who dun stepped on our property with their newfangled, electric-picture-taking gizmos and we, in turn, finished pelting them with leftover yellow pattipan, they proceeded to film the following, a great piece featuring a glimpse inside our cutting-edge greenhouses, the best salesman in the produce business, and possibly the worst haircut in the Western Hemisphere (jump to the 2:37 mark, if you don’t believe me). Oh, and there’s a subtle tip of the hat to our friend, Beaucoup Bakery, in the video. But please refrain from telling Jackie. Her ego’s big enough already. =)

Enjoy!

Barnston in the News!

Thursday, July 25th, 2013

Our good friend, chef Jefferson Alvarez of Gastown’s Secret Location, was on Global Morning News today, making an awesome burrata for Sophie Lui and Barry Deley. He gave us a great shout-out at the top of the segment, for which we’re nice and grateful.

Shout-out on CTV Morning Live

Thursday, June 20th, 2013

I’m a little slow in posting this to the site, but we got a nice shout-out on CTV Morning Live about a week ago. This was thanks to our good friend, Jackie Ellis, of Beaucoup Bakery.

Check out the clip here.

Barnston Island Herbs @ 2013 Spot Prawn Festival!

Monday, May 6th, 2013

Yep, you read that correctly: we’re sponsoring this year’s Spot Prawn Festival. If you’re unfamiliar with it, the festival’s an awesome event where you get to learn about how great spot prawns are, then devour mass quantities of the little darlings (There’s a boil; you don’t have to eat them raw, though I suppose if you want to, go nuts…).

Anyway, if you’re coming down, we’ll be manning a booth down there and flogging our wares (Which is a mite more socially acceptable than flogging other things. Like dolphins. Yes, I said it.). Stop by for a visit. Talk some herbs and stuff. Here be the particulars, and the link to their website (again):

Chefs’ Table Society 2013 Spot Prawn Festival. Saturday, May 11, 2013. 11am-2pm. False Creek Fishermen’s Wharf.

Hope to see y’all there!

Call us for a good Thyme
